How to Manage Sample Scheduling Over the Next 4 Weeks (And Beyond) with Smart-QC
A common question we often get from customers is: How can we ensure that we can accommodate all the expected samples over the next 4 weeks, and beyond?
This is especially critical when working with patient samples versus those made to inventory. We can’t afford delays or a backlog in the lab, as this could lead to missed deliveries.
👉 One standard approach is to lock the entire 4-week schedule.
At Smart-QC, we’ve made this part of our configuration through the lock horizon setting, ensuring that the schedule remains firm for that time period.
However, a key challenge arises not all of the locked samples actually arrive on time or arrive at all, leading to waste. To mitigate this, we often recommend a partial lock, focusing on managing the backlog while leaving flexibility on new or not arrived assignments. This method strikes a balance by allowing labs to handle the backlog without the burden of frequent schedule changes, as new samples may not arrive
as expected.
In essence, Smart-QC helps businesses manage both the uncertainty and waste of scheduling by offering a 1–2-week lock that assures lab capacity and addresses the backlog, while avoiding the inefficiencies of locking an entire 4-week schedule or more.
✅ By adopting this approach, we ensure smoother operations with fewer fluctuations and greater confidence in meeting deadlines.
